A Nebraska sheriff's deputy died suddenly last month after suffering a medical emergency during a call.

Saunders County Sheriff's Deputy Jeff Hermanson started to feel sick after arresting a stolen car suspect, KETV-TV reports. He was taken to the hospital, where he suffered a cardiac emergency and died.

"He will be greatly missed by all of our employees. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends," the sheriff's office stated in a social media post.

Hermanson, 45, began serving part-time with the agency in 2001 and was elevated to full-time status in 2007. He eventually served as a K-9 handler.

He is survived by his wife and two sons.
