ETS staff are experts in risk assessment and risk management of pesticides, fertilizers, lead and arsenic. Our knowledge of the environmental chemistry of lead and arsenic is applied to shooting ranges. We conduct risk assessments, develop feasible cleanup/mitigation strategies, and prepare proactive environmental stewardship programs called Best Management Practices plans. These BMP programs help shooting range owners and operators manage lead and arsenic contamination from shot and bullets by providing site-specific recommendations in the areas of lead reclamation, vegetation management, soil amendments, and passive (civil) engineering. ETS produces the guide "EPA and OSHA Compliance Guide for Small Arms Ranges: A Focus on Lead". ETS President Dr. Stuart Cohen lectured on environmental issues for the National Rifle Association for many years and has over 25 years experience as an environmental professional, which includes 11 years in EPA's Office of Pesticides & Toxic Substances.
