Fla. Police Officer Seriously Injured at Crash Scene

Feb. 10, 2022
A Daytona Beach police officer was working at the scene of a traffic accident when an SUV failed to slow down and struck his patrol car, pushing the vehicle into him.

A 34-year-old Daytona Beach police officer was struck and seriously injured Wednesday night by a stationary squad car that was hit by an oncoming vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

At 9 p.m., a DBPD officer was working a crash site at the intersection of LPGA Boulevard and Clyde Morris Boulevard and standing near a DBPD squad car with its lights active, said FHP’s Lt. Kim Montes. Then, a 2019 Hyundai SUV, driven by a 22-year-old woman of Palm Coast, traveled east on LPGA toward the intersection and failed to slow down. The SUV hit the squad car, which pushed into the officer, Montes said.

The officer was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Troopers are investigating the crash, and charges are pending against the Palm Coast woman.
