Dashboard camera footage captured the impact of a vehicle crashing into an Ohio Highway Patrol cruiser as a trooper was returning to the patrol car during a traffic stop in Portage County.

An Ohio Highway Patrol trooper was nearly struck by an impaired and distracted driving early Thursday.

The incident happened while the trooper was conducting a traffic stop in Portage County, according to the state agency. As the trooper returns to his cruiser, dashboard camera footage captures the impact of another vehicle hitting the patrol car.

"The trooper narrowly avoided being struck," the Ohio Highway Patrol stated in an online update. "We are grateful he is ok."

The video shows troopers handcuffing a woman and putting her into a cruiser. According to the department, the driver was both impaired and distracted.

"Impaired driving and distracted driving are BAD on their own," the agency stated. "Being impaired AND distracted is a whole other level of dangerous."
