LUFKIN, Texas -- Recently released videos shows an SUV veer off a road a slam into a Lufkin police officer over the weekend.

Officer Seth Thompson was on the scene of a minor wreck on Timberland Drive around 12:52 p.m. on May 4 when a white Toyota Sequoia crossed multiple lanes of traffic and entered a parking lot, striking the officer, according to a news release.

The video shows two angles -- one taken on a citizen's dashboard camera that captured the crash and another from the officer’s body worn camera that shows the impact.

Thompson was transported to a hospital in Tyler where he is recovering.

“For whatever reason God wasn’t ready to call me home yesterday. I didn’t sleep a whole lot last night. They said it was a Toyota SUV that hit me, but I’m not so sure it wasn’t a Mack truck. LOL!," Thompson wrote on his Facebook page Sunday. "Anyway, being up all night allowed me to see every post, comment, like, and text. Each one brought tears to my eyes. The amount of support my family and I have received throughout everything from family, friends, and our community has been truly overwhelming! I’m sorry I can’t respond to everything sent to me but I promise I see or hear them all and each prayer is felt! How great is our God!”

Thompson has received support from his community for another battle. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2017, and it returned in 2018. Shortly thereafter, his wife, Hannah, was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, which she continues to fight today.

What caused the SUV to wreck is currently unknown and under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety. The driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
