Ohio Trooper Struck by Impaired Driver

Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Mike Austin was hit by an impaired driver after he slammed into his patrol car.

An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper is continuing to recover after being struck last week.

Trooper Mike Austin was hit by an impaired driver after he slammed into his patrol car State Route 347 in Union County on Friday, according to WCMH-TV.

"He had a person stopped for a speed violation when another driver came up behind him struck the rear of his patrol car he was knocked to the ground then that driver struck him while he was laying on the ground," Lt. Molly Harris of The Marysville Post said.

Austin was transported to a local hospital to be treated was has since been sent home to continue his recovery.

"He’s doing very well he had injuries to his foot," Harris said. "The suspect actually ran over his foot. [He has] injuries to his hand and bumps and bruises too."

There is no word yet on when the trooper will be back at work and the impact of the crash was so bad that the dash cam video couldn't be salvaged.

The driver who struck Austin was charged with operating a vehicle while impaired.
