PowerPhone Expands Telephone CPR (T-CPR) Training for All Telecommunicators

Aug. 1, 2017
PowerPhone has expanded Telephone-CPR certification from our Emergency Medical Dispatch certification as an optional add-on at no additional charge for Fire Service Dispatch and Law Enforcement Dispatch certification students.

MADISON, Conn.Aug. 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- 911 call-handling solution and training provider PowerPhone is making its Telephone CPR (T-CPR) certification course available to all Telecommunicators. T-CPR certification incorporates everything that 911 call handlers need (as the true first responder on the scene) to consistently and effectively handle CPR-related calls.

PowerPhone has expanded Telephone-CPR certification from our Emergency Medical Dispatch certification as an optional add-on at no additional charge for Fire Service Dispatch and Law Enforcement Dispatch certification students.

Expanding T-CPR training access is a proactive response to the American Heart Association's (AHA) recommended program for increasing cardiac arrest survival by improving bystander CPR rates. The AHA has found that, "early access to 911 and early CPR are the first two links in the chain of survival from cardiac arrest," and that, "as much as 50 percent of bystander CPR in communities that provide T-CPR instructions to 911 callers is directly attributable to those instructions."i

PowerPhone's T-CPR training meets all of the American Heart Association's best practice recommendations for dispatcher-lead CPR instructions including the standard that all Telecommunicators receive at least three to four hours of T-CPR training. The four-credit-hour-equivalent course features real audio clips with interactive prompts to guide students through the T-CPR information-gathering and decision-making processes and utilizes PowerPhone's proven online education model to keep students engaged. The course teaches students to quickly recognize appropriate T-CPR scenarios and how to relay effective CPR instructions to the caller.

"Just as every emergency responder receives some CPR training," said PowerPhone President Jerry Turk, "every Telecommunicator employed in a primary PSAP should have T-CPR training, in the event it becomes necessary during a call."

Across-the-board training is the best way for communities to ensure the appropriate response to any emergency. "The essence of successful T-CPR," explained Turk, "involves prompts recognizing the need for resuscitation and the effectiveness of its delivery. Training every 911 call handler in T-CPR is ideal because it is both best for the patient and less stressful for the caller since CPR instructions empower callers to take action until emergency responders arrive on scene."

T-CPR certification is now available as an optional add-on module for dispatchers certifying in either Fire Service Dispatch or Law Enforcement Dispatch at no additional charge. T-CPR training has long been, and will continue to be, a mandatory and integral part of PowerPhone's Emergency Medical Dispatch certification.

Total Response is a full service 911 call-handling solution providing agencies with the training, tools and processes to achieve and raise their community's standard of care. Total Response provides agencies with a flexible framework that empowers call handlers to deal with the entirety of each call based on scene conditions and uses integrated response protocols to provide each call with a logical and consistent resolution.  Total Response's built in flexibility makes it adaptable for any emergency call-handling entity including universities, enterprise businesses and military agencies.

T-CPR certification is also available to dispatchers from agencies who do not use PowerPhone's Total Response protocol system. "We see this as our initiative to improve T-CPR for all existing or prospective Telecommunicators, not just those we already certify," said PowerPhone President Jerry Turk, "our goal is to help every community raise their standard of T-CPR care and, by association, to help save lives."
