RED BLUFF, CA—The luck of the Irish wasn't with one driver on St. Patrick's Day morning in Red Bluff.
The Red Bluff Police Department, said about 3:30 a.m., was contacted by California Highway Patrol regarding a vehicle collision at their office at Main Street.
When Red Bluff officers arrived at the scene, they allegedly found Samuel Segura, 37, of Red Bluff, who was allegedly under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. While investigating, law enforcement officers say they learned Segura's driver's license was suspended from a DUI arrest that occurred in January.
According to RBPD, the officers ultimately determined Segura had driven under the influence of an alcoholic beverage with a suspected blood alcohol content above 0.08%.
In January, Segura was stopped by a police officer after he failed to stop at a stop sign. Police said during that incident, Segura was arrested for driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage with a suspected blood alcohol content above 0.08%. As a result, Segura's driver's license was suspended/ revoked.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), "Every day, about 37 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes — that's one person every 39 minutes. In 2021, 13,384 people died in alcohol-impaired driving traffic deaths — a 14% increase from 2020.
"Consuming alcoholic beverages and getting behind the wheel is simply not worth the risk," RBPD said.
