Mix & Match Politicians Poll Results

In last week's blog I put forth a short discussion about how this presidential election seems to be taking some odd twists and turns. I also put forth the idea that if the presidential candidates switched vice-presidential running mates the election would be entirely different. In conjunction with that blog Officer.com put up a poll question on the homepage. More than 1,000 people voted and I saw what I expected - but it surprised me just the same. As I type this entry there have been almost 1,100 votes cast. To refresh your memory the options were: Obama / Palin McCain / Biden Powell / Rice I did that for several reasons. First I found it hypocritcal that both presidential candidates selected as their running mates people who embodied exactly what the presidential candidates had campaigned on the country NOT needing. Obama picked a veteran politician. McCain picked someone relatively young and inexperienced. It made me wonder if our country really is that impressed with having a "change" in government? I also made that switch to find out who is running against whom. Think about it: if youth and change is really what this country wants then the Obama / Palin ticket should be overwhelmingly popular. And, since there are those out there who claim this campaign is all about minorities coming into their own, then a political team up that encompases two recognized minorities should certainly win over a more traditional team. Finally, because I've heard SO many people say they wished Colin Powell would run for office I put him in and teamed him with Condoleeaza Rice. Again, was this about youth and change? or minorities? or was there something else going on? The team of Obama/Palin has received only 17% of the votes cast so far. The team of McCain/Biden has received 37% of the votes cast so far. The team of Powell/Rice has received 46% of the votes cast so far. This is not a scientific poll. I have no clue what the plus or minus percentage of error might be. Readers go to the homepage, read the question and click a button. ASSUMING they all can read and clicked on the button they meant to, Powell/Rice should be running for office. They'd be the clear winners. There isn't a difference of one or two percentage points. They are ahead of the 2nd team by 9% and the 3rd team by 29%. The 2nd team is ahead of the 3rd team by 20%. Now, there are a few things that MIGHT be interpreted from this unscientific poll. 1) We might assume that a large number of readers are Republican because a total of 83% of the votes were cast for a Republican Presidential candidate. 2) We might assume that 63% of our readers are African-American because that's the percentage of votes cast for an African-American Presidential candidate. 3) We might assume that only 17% of our readers are impressed by, and willing to vote for, "a change in government". 4) Without putting a specific number on it, we might also assume that some of Obama's supporters are more impressed with Biden than they are Obama. In that same vein, we could assume that some of McCain's supporters are happier with him that Palin. I think it definitely says something that the Obama/Palin team has only 17% of the votes cast. What do you think?
