One man is dead and two Rocky Mount police officers are on administrative leave following a confrontation at a Nash County convenience store. According to witnesses, Timothy Wayne Newton got into an argument at the EP Mart and Shell station. Authorities said he later broke a window at the nearby GuestHouse International Inn and went back to the gas station. Police said they witnessed Newton hitting the store's windows. Investigators said when officers walked toward Newton, they tried to talk to him, but he became upset and more violent. After Newton allegedly made a move toward the officers, a Taser gun was used and Newton was taken into custody. The 43-year-old was transported to Nash General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Authorities said Newton was not staying at the motel. The State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to assist with the investigation. Reporters: Dan Bowens and Julia LewisPhotographer: Don IngleWeb Editors: Kamal Wallace and Matthew Burns
