Colorado Deputy Shot; Suspect in Custody

A Mesa County Sheriff's deputy was wounded and the suspected gunman was arrested Monday.

A Mesa County, Colorado Sheriff's deputy was wounded and the suspected gunman was taken into custody Monday morning.

Authorities were reportedly searching a neighborhood for a gun after a suspect was apprehended in the backyard of a home on Ol' Sun Drive in Pear Park around 12:10 p.m., according to The Daily Sentential

Deputies responded to a report of a man walking with a gun in the 500 block of Fruitvale Court at 11:06 a.m., Sheriff’s spokesman Henry Stoffel told the newspaper.

A deputy who responded to the scene was transported to a local hospital after he was shot. His condition is unknown.

A manhunt was launched for the suspect, who was wearing a black bandana, hoodie and blue jeans.

Pear Park and Chatfield elementary schools were placed on locked down while Central High School, Grand Mesa Middle School and Fruitvale and Rocky Mountain elementary schools were on shelter-in-place.

Several roads in the area were shut down to aid with the search.
