Conroe Police Lt. James "Jimmy" Waller died after he and his wife were injured when a short-lived EF-1 tornado tore through their home in Trinity County.

A Conroe police officer injured when a tornado struck his Trinity County home Sunday night has died, authorities said.

Lt. James "Jimmy" Waller and his wife, Adela, were injured when a short-lived EF-1 tornado struck the area that night. The National Weather Service said the tornado destroyed the home and also damaged a tree and vehicle.

In a Facebook post late Friday, the Conroe Police Department said that after multiple injuries, "physicians determined that his injuries were too great to sustain life."

"His family members were able to spend time with him prior to his passing," according to the statement.

Waller was a 22-year veteran of the department.
