A Dallas police officer was shot while responding to a shooting Thursday afternoon, according to a report from Star-Telegram partner WFAA-TV.
Dallas police are investigating the officer-involved shooting in the 4800 block of Scyene Road, the department announced in a social media post at around 2 p.m. Thursday.
The officer who was shot is in stable condition, according to the post.
Officers were driving in the 4800 block of Scyene Road when they saw a shooting and turned their car around to respond, police told WFAA.
A suspect opened fire at the responding officers and one officer was shot in the chest, but was saved by the bullet-proof vest he was wearing, according to the report.
The suspect ran away from the scene on foot and police are searching the area.
The incident comes shortly after an incident that injured four Dallas officers early Thursday morning when a car hit an SUV the officers were taking cover behind at a shooting scene. One other person was injured and a suspect was arrested.
This is the Dallas Police Department’s ninth officer-involved shooting in 2023.
