Georgia Police Officer Dies in Crash While Driving Home After Shift

Wadley Police Officer Daniel Thomas died from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle wreck.

WADLEY, Georgia -- A Wadley police officer died Sunday following a single-vehicle crash while driving home from his shift.

The Wadley Police Department announced on its Facebook page, Patrol Officer Daniel Thomas died from injuries sustained in the wreck on Highway 1, south of Wrens.

According to the department, his remains will be taken to the GBI crime lab Monday morning and then escorted to a funeral home. Funeral arrangements are being made.

"I would like to thank Jefferson County Sheriff Office and Dispatch, Louisville PD, Wrens PD, Wrens FD, Louisville FD, GSP, Gold Cross, Jefferson County Coroner, Jefferson County ER Staff and Richmond County Sheriff's Office and Dispatch for everything you've done to assist and help us during this most difficult time," Chief Tommy Walker said in the post.
