Iowa Sheriff's Deputy Dies Following Crash

Lyon County Sheriff's Deputy Stephanie Schreurs died on Tuesday after she sustained incapacitating injuries after she was involved in a single-vehicle crash early Friday morning.

LYON COUNTY, Iowa -- A Lyon County Sheriff's deputy succumbed to injuries Tuesday that she sustained in a crash last week.

Deputy Stephanie Schreurs sustained incapacitating injuries after she was involved in a single-vehicle crash early Friday morning, according to a news release.

The 24-year veteran of the force was flown to a hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she was pronounced dead four days later.

The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol, which is conducting a technical collision investigation.

A memorial fund has been established in honor of Deputy Schreurs at Security Savings Bank in Larchwood, Iowa.

"The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is thankful for the outpouring of support they have received from the surrounding law enforcement agencies, first responders, medical staff, and community," the Lyon County Sheriff's Office wrote in a statement.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
