A Niagara Falls police officer responding to a fire at a home on Pasadena Avenue Tuesday afternoon rescued a woman and her dog.
Niagara Falls police and fire units as well as an AMR ambulance crew were dispatched to 810 Pasadena Ave. about 10 a.m. for reports of a structure fire with possible entrapment.
A Niagara Falls police officer arrived on scene first and reportedly kicked in the front door, entered the residence and located the woman halfway up the stairs between the first and second floor. He pulled her and her dog to safety.
Falls Fire Department Engine 9 arrived on scene and confirmed smoke showing from the second floor. The crew stretched a hose line into the residence and reported heavy hoarding conditions.
The rest of the assignment — Engines 7, 8, 4, Truck 2, Rescue 1, Car 80 — arrived on scene shortly thereafter and assisted with fire suppression and ventilation.
Niagara Falls Fire Chief Joe Pedulla confirmed one firefighter sustained a "minor injury" while fighting the fire. He added that conditions in the home made it difficult for firefighters to move from room to room as they searched for the source of the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
