San Joaquin County sheriff's deputies shot a man after he allegedly stabbed a police dog in the face Thursday morning.
The man, whom sheriff's officials did not immediately name, was approached in his vehicle by deputies around 5 a.m. Thursday. The deputies deemed the vehicle, parked on the side of the road near Highway 99 and East Frontage Road in Manteca, to be "suspicious," officials said in a statement.
The man in the vehicle had a warrant out for his arrest, sheriff's officials said, and he refused to exit the vehicle when deputies asked him to do so.
Just after 6 a.m., the man allegedly exited the vehicle armed with a knife, and stabbed a police dog's face.
Deputies shot the man, who was transported to a nearby hospital. His condition was not immediately known
