When a Houston area police officer received a call about an alligator blocking the doorway of a resident's home, he took matters into his own hands—literally. On Friday, Lt. Bill Henry of the Fulshear Police Department wrangled a small gator he found at the entrance of a home in the Fulshear Creek Subdivision using his bare hands. The hair-raising encounter was caught on Henry's body camera.
"I got a pole, but this one's kind of small, so I got it," Henry is heard saying in the footage, which was posted on Facebook by the Fulshear Police Department on Friday. As Henry approaches the tiny, short-legged reptile, it begins to hiss loudly and lunge at him as it flashes its jaws. Undeterred, Henry grabs the scaly creature firmly by its neck and tail to prevent it from biting him. "Look at you, you're a hero!" one of the residents tells Henry as he walks off with the alligator in hand.
The 40-second-long clip has been viewed more than 80,000 times and has amassed thousands of likes and hundreds of comments since it was shared. "We have a message for Lieutenant Bill Henry after watching his body cam video: 'You can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy,'" the Fulshear Police Department captioned the post.
"He deserves a RAISE!! My officers would have asked for backup," read one comment. "Looks almost as much fun as Lt. Henry has out our council meetings," commented Fulshear Councilmember Sarah B. Johnson.
The alligator was reportedly Henry's second catch of the day. Earlier in the morning, he helped wrangle one of the reptiles hiding out in the backyard of a home in the Polo Ranch Subdivision, according to FOX 26 Houston.
