TOMS RIVER, NJ — An intrusive deer managed to make a mess in an elementary school when it got inside the building and then led police on a foot chase through the halls and into a classroom.

A post on social media from the Toms River Police Department says the deer got into Cedar Grover Elementary School when the building was closed by breaking through a glass window.

“Officers quickly located the deer, but in an attempt to escape arrest, it took off running down the hallway and into a classroom,” the post says. “Officers opened the rear door and guided their new furry friend to the exit. The deer was last seen headed north”

The video from police, set to a version of “Run Rudolph Run,” shows the deer jumping onto shelves and a desk, knocking over decorations and other items to the ground.

A spokeswoman for the police department tells the window the deer broke was boarded up, and a custodian was called in to clean up the aftermath.
