Ohio Trooper Seriously Injured After Being Struck While Investigating Crash

MADISON COUNTY, Ohio -- A Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper was struck while investigating a crash Thursday morning.

Trooper Jason R. Hofmann, who is assigned to the West Jefferson Post, was hit while on the scene of the two-vehicle collision on U.S. 42 near Interstate 70 around 6:19 a.m., according to a news release.

Hofmann, who was out of his patrol car wearing his reflective vest, was taking measurements on the right berm when a tan Chevrolet Astro van traveling southbound on U.S. 42 drifted off the right side of the road and struck him.

Hofmann sustained serious injuries and was transported by medical helicopter to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

The driver of the Chevrolet Astro van, identified was 64-year-old Cynthia Faulk, was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
