Texas Deputy Inspector General Killed in On-Duty Crash

Texas Juvenile Justice Department Deputy Inspector General Richard Hale was returning from a meeting and still on-duty when the crash occurred near Decatur Wednesday afternoon.

A deputy inspector general with the Texas Juvenile Justice Department died in a crash near Decatur Wednesday afternoon.

Texas Juvenile Justice Department Deputy Inspector General Richard Hale was returning from a meeting and still on-duty when the crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Farm-to-Market Road 51, according to KXAS-TV.

Troopers said that Hale's Chevrolet Impala crossed the center line and hit an tractor-trailer.

The 46-year-old deputy inspector general joined the Texas Juvenile Justice Department's Office of Inspector General in 2017. The agency investigates possible criminal activity of TJJD employees or possible criminal activity taking place at TJJD facilities.

Prior to TJJD, Hale was an officer with the Decatur Police Department for nine years.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
