REIDSVILLE, Georgia -- Authorities are searching for a convicted rapist after he was mistakenly released from a state prison in southeast Georgia last week.
Tony Maycon Munoz-Mendez, 31, was serving a life sentence at Rogers State Prison in Reidsville for rape and aggravated child molestation when he was released “in error” on Friday afternoon, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.
Spokeswoman Lori Benoit said the department was reviewing how the mistake was made and when officials released it had occurred.
The department’s fugitive unit and US Marshals are leading the search.
