INDIANAPOLIS --

Wounded IMPD Officer Jason Fishburn uttered his first words Monday evening following his shooting more than two weeks ago: "Oh my God, I want to go fishing!"

Fishburn's family said his uncle had promised to take him fishing when he recovered from the July 10 shooting.

The statement came as Fishburn was transferred to a rehabilitation center Monday after spending 18 days in the intensive care unit at Wishard Hospital.

Fishburn's family said he was also able to recite the alphabet and count.

Doctors said Fishburn likely has a long road to recovery after he was shot in the head. He also suffered a less-severe wound to his chest, where his bullet-proof vest blocked a gunshot.

Fishburn was attempting to arrest a man now charged in connection with three Indianapolis-area slayings.

At the request of Fishburn's family, the location of the rehabilitation center was not disclosed.
