TYPEWRITER AT THIS AGE?
Its so surprising for me to know that the New York Police Department whom the third world police is looking up to is still using outdated and old fashioned machines. In my own country Nigeria, typewriters are being replaced with computers to make office work easy and fast and officers and men are encouraged to be computer literate since the world is now a global village. The earlier the typewriters are discarded the better.

The armory of our 1600+ person department still uses typewriters to sign out firearms, Tasers and other items. Life goes on.

It took me almost two hours to post this message using a type writer. I can't help but think it would only take like an hour and forty five minutes with a computer. Computers may be a fad but they do save time!

Pro vs Con
It's a shame NYPD still uses typewriters for any forms. However, it's a great idea to keep typewriters on hand at precincts should the electric go out and arrests/reports, etc still need to be documented. It beats handwriting them ... if you have enough whiteout on hand!
The rookies (less than 10 years on the job) usually understand very little about what we used to have (aka NOT have) when it comes to technology and simplicity -- back in the day!

MD LEO's still use typewriters to type CDS chain of custody forms and statement of charges. I don't see what the big deal is. They make it sound like NYPD uses typewriters for everything when the article in fact states that they use them for certain forms, not all. I mean seriously, there isn't that much more involved between typing on a typewriter and typing on a computer.

2009, detroit finally started using comp. about 4 yrs ago, prior to that handwritten rpts. I thought they were the only dept. stuck in the stoneage.
