A day care in Sealy was shut down after children were found hidden all over the property, KPRC Local 2 reported.

  • FIND IT: Child Care Licensing

Sealy police said a day care licensing inspector called them Wednesday to check on a day care at a home on Willow Street at Brookside Lane.

Officers found 14 children, ranging in age from 6 months to 4 years. Some of them were locked in a back yard shed and others were hidden in closets.

Six unsupervised infants were found in a storage shed, investigators said. They were surrounded by hazardous materials, including gas cans, lawnmowers and insecticides, officials said.

All of the children were evaluated by emergency medical services and released to their parents.

Marietta Patek was charged with six counts of endangering a child. Her husband, Eddie, was charged with tampering with evidence. Officers said he tried to hide children at a neighbor's house.

    Child Protective Services is investigating.

*Steaming mad, and climbing on the soapbox*

This is another example of the very lax laws regarding child care businesses in Texas. For example, Dallas PD will put officers in strip joints to enforce the 6ft rule, but no one is enforcing the law regarding these child care businesses. These places are filthy, unsafe and unsupervised. Even if a business is reported, it can take months for an inspector to get there. It's just not a priority in Texas. There's no revenue in it.

Even if a child perishes by being left in a hot car, there's only a 50% chance that any charges will be filed. The standard line is "Well, the parent has suffered enough with the loss of a child." Bull*censored*; it's manslaughter, and someone needs to go to jail. They've even caught a few parents doing it on purpose, hoping they'd get the standard "let 'em off lightly" treatment. You wanna taser somebody? Taser these a$$hole parents!

We all need to start watching out for the kids more. During a stop, take a second to look at the kids. If your talking to Joe Public, talk about his kid. Check out the youngsters at the restaurant. Are they bruised? or burnt? Only by being more aware of how vulnerable these kids are can we protect them. You may very well be the only one that day to think about their welfare.

At the very least, I'm glad the inspector and officers got there quickly and thought to search the area. Otherwise we might be hearing about six child deaths.

*still steaming, but getting off the soapbox*

    Day Care
I was assigned to grand jury presentment when my kids were born. I'd never had problems until after their birth. We had a case where a 4 year old was duct taped to the bed and starved to death. All the while, 4 adults in the home and other children had the typical Texas waist line. I quit sitting in on those cases after that. I hug my kids every night.

We had a call on the Aurora line, they handed it to us.

A woman was running a day care out of her apartment.

Over a dozen toddlers strapped into car seats along the living room wall. A TV blaring in the corner.

The place with filthy, dirty dishes piled up and food scattered all over the place.

Older kids wandering all over the complex and by the unguarded swimming pool in the courtyard.

She was not licensed and we cited her. She wanted to "have a few days" to let the parents know she would not be taking in kids anymore.

Her concern was that she had been paid for the week already.

We made her start calling the parents to come get their kids.

The ones that we questioned claimed they were unaware of the conditions in the apartments.

The parents in Texas had to have known what kind of "daycare" they were paying for.

More charges should be pending if any of them admit to ever walking into that home.

Just another reason women should stay home with THEIR CHILDREN...among many other reasons. Think...how many incomes does it take to run a household? Two. Yes, and why is that? Because mortgages, utilities, etc can charge more because they can get more. The more you have the more they take.

So much for women's lib! What a farce!
