ALVIN, Texas --

A man shot at police during a SWAT standoff in Brazoria County, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Alvin police said the standoff at the Wedgeworth Apartments on Eighth Street involved at least 50 officers. The situation started at about 11 p.m. Monday.

Investigators said the gunman fired several shots at officers, forcing them to take cover behind parked cars.

The man was armed with at least two pistols and a shotgun, police said.

Police Chief Mike Merkel said the man called relatives in Austin.

"He had told them that he was somewhat despondent over what had happened in some legal proceedings," Merkel said. "He also indicated that he shot himself in the leg. They called the Police Department, at which time we sent two officers and emergency personnel to check on his welfare. When the officers arrived there, he came out of the apartment immediately and began firing rounds with a revolver, what appeared to be an automatic weapon."

Detectives said they did not have time to evacuate the rest of the apartment building. Police used a bullhorn to warn residents to stay inside.

A curious neighbor ended up getting shot, investigators said. He suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder but is expected to recover.

The man was arrested and faces multiple charges. His name has not been released. Police have not said what kind of legal issues he had.

wow
I think I like this one better:
A curious neighbor ended up getting shot, investigators said. He suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder but is expected to recover.

Too many times, curiosity can be found hand in hand with stupidity.

I heard Senators Feinstein and Schumer have co-sponsored a bill to ban automatic revolvers, which have a magazine capacity of more than 10 rounds. Give me a freaking break.

What the hell happened to "shooting back " when fired upon???? OH wait , the officers learned of the supreme court nominee and they didn't want to trade their cop siuts for prison appearal.
I am so glad I retired from the badge 2 years ago , 30 was enough, I would hate to be starting out in police work in this day and time, not only do you have to watch your ass dealing with the bad guys, the liberal Osama system being slowly infringed on us will destroy your life with one "oh Sh%t".

OK, so he wasn't shot in the leg--though the initial call/story was credible.
You have two crazy people, "Shooter and "Curious George"
The man was arrested, will be keeping his family busy discussing those new charges and the old ones.

I won't miss reading--- his family discussing with media about his being a Poor Wounded Despondent Angel.
Officers kept him in control --instead of angering him and his possibly going on a ramage in the building.
Their assessment and follow-through with patience, "cautionary "was good.
