I would like to know if they also fired the person that leaked the video to the news and on the web. Isn't that violating at least a policy or something? Whoever leaked it should be fired. If they had a problem with what they saw, it's called follow your chain of command.

Wow! The two commenters above really reinforce why the public thinks a lot of us stink. Erik, I know your Department, so that explains your dumb comment.
Z - the person who leaked it deserves a raise, not a penalty - I am sure you know how Departments, especially jails, cover this crap up on a consistent basis.

You guys really think this old way of acting will work? Y'all need to find other careers.

Ethics
I'm a little disturbed by these comments. I spent 16 years as a cop in the Baptist Belt of Ohio in the big city and a rural agency. Regardless of my faith and strong belief against homosexuality I took an oath (hopefully you did too) to protect and serve everyone! Regardless of their beliefs or practices.

When I was an FTO, and now as an Instructor in the Ohio Police Academy I fear that a recruit will run into a backward thinking cop that will surely get them fired or indicted. If you truly think that way do us all a favor and don't give anyone advice!

"beating"
Well, I think we would have to see the tape before we make judgement. Maybe the officer was defending himself. The first paragraph said "beating" and later on the article said a "scuffle" had ensued and described the arrestee as 6'05", most likely a little bigger than the officer. Granted, none of us have seen the tape, but so far it sounds like self defense unless something else showed up on tape. The article said that the suspect was not "seriously hurt". Why is it always labeled as abuse when the Police defend themselves? Too early to make a judgement.
Maybe the gay rights people should counsel their constituents to not engage in prostitution and other illegal activity that could land you in jail, but if they do find themselves in jail...dont fight the Po-leece!

Article title should be "ARRESTEE FIGHTS WITH POLICE AND LOSES- POLICE PROSECUTED"

attack
Why is it that so many loonies want to allegedly attack a Police Officer by busting the Officers fist with their face?? A skull is a dangerous weapon and to slam it repeatedly into an Officers Fist (Which is much smaller that the Officers fist) could break the knuckles. Dont fight the Police!!

Evidently most of the above posters did not see the video. I saw it when it came out on the internet. It was not what the media depicted. The supect was actively resisting and the officer did what was required to bring the suspect into compliance. The force was not over the top. The supect was not injured to the point that he even needed medical attention. The fact is, if the officer wasn't on probation he would have never been fired and if the media hadn't crucified him because the suspect was of a "special interest group" he still would not have been. This officer got thrown under the bus because it was the politically expedient thing to do.

All of you who have expressed your opinion on this matter who didn't even see what happened are the ones who need to seek new employment. I know I don't want to work with people like you.

ok someone correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the story now say the guy....I'm mean girl....no wait the "it" is now dead right....so I guess "it" doesn't need to be worrying about "it's" civil rights anymore so ...throw the case out IMHO

So old_lizard in No. Calif....... after hearing that what he did was justified, do you still think the backstabber deserves a raise?? Would you like one of your brothers to go behind your back and release a tape of you only doing your job?? Which then results in you getting fired?
I don't think you'd appreciate that.
And what part of following your chain of command is an "old way of acting"?
It's alright, I got nothin' but love for ya! ;-)
