WASHINGTON
--
A student shot two people at the Excel Institute in northeast Washington Tuesday afternoon, News4's Miguel Almaguer reported.
The student apparently shot a male student in the face inside the building in the 2800 block of V Street. Outside, he shot at a group of students, striking a woman in the shoulder. Both victims are expected to survive.
The gunman carjacked two vehicles as police pursued him, police said. The second vehicle was a Terminix truck.
The gunman was taken into custody at C and 17th streets in Southeast.
The Excel Institute is a post-secondary educational institution founded by former Washington Redskins player George Starke and Parking Management Inc. CEO John Lyon in 1997 to provide scholarships to at-risk youth and adults for vocational training in automotive technology. Excel also offers a course to help students become more successful in job searches and job retention.
