Probe Finds Weaknesses in Federal Security
IT IS ABOUT TIME ALL LAW ENFORCEMENT ACTIVITIES AT FEDERAL BUILDINGS BE CONDUCTED BY FLETC TRAINED FEDERAL 0083 POLICE OFFICERS WITH 6C LAW ENFORCEMENT BENEFITS. 0085 GUARDS AND UNTRAINED, UNRELIABLE WACKENGUARDS SERVE NO VIABLE PURPOSE.

Not the Feds
Oh no! The Feds made a mistake. How shocking. They need more college education. That will help.

Very valid point Inspector Callahan. You want top notch performance and accountability, then train your people the right way, pay livable wages, good benefits, give them real power as federal police officers. Good police/security work costs money. Too bad not many LE agencies at all levels realize that.

Weakness in Fed Security
As a Fed, it's not surprising. I see it on a daily basis at my prison. Any joe smoe can just drive their vehicle right up to the doors and no one says anything. "Visitors" are allowed to hang out in the parking lot that we use. One of these days, it's gonna bite them in the ass...

Secuity Guards
There should be no contract guards who aren't trained as good as law enforcement officers.
Tough words, but someone has to say it.

Federal Contract Guard for 5 years
Seeing every aspect of the wokings of these Government guard contracts its really unfortunate that the monies arent spent per contract states and NO OVERSIGHT. The owner are pocketing loads of money and the government gives them 5 years to do so. You can't place ALL the blame on the guard companies. As far as recuriting quality contract guards we ALL should be required to attend the FLETC training academy from this point on to weave out the dead beat guards that I work with daily. Furthermore, this recklessness of level 4 buliding security has been going on for YEARS!

What the report left out.

One guard was found and filmed asleep (he was on Prozac).

Another ran a baby in a child seat through the X-ray machine (he was on auto pilot, did not see the kid he had his hands on).

The inspectors brought binary explosive and bomb parts into the buildings.

Then assembled them in the men's room.

They are just like the guys at TSA, just as dumb.

The feds will never send all these mokes through FLETC.

Costs too much for people doing general security work.

Plus, once trained they are open to being hired by a real police agency.

Last time I checked FPS is now under ICE and they have "Homeland Security" on their cars.

At least get rid of the contract guards and hire direct as federal employees.

Contract guards who have trouble at one post are often reassigned to another federal contract.

There will still be problems, but you can set consistent standards, fire them and have a stove pipe chain of supervision.

As it stands, guards almost never see an FPS officer, yet in theory they are sort of supervised by them.

RENT A COPS
I think that we need to get rid of all of these old, fat guards that fall asleep at the machines. They get paid more than $20/hr and do nothing. The ones that are not old are always chasing after some girl and no one cares. The rent a cop company only cares about the profit and that is it. These people are worse than the ones at the airport and I hate having to work in a building that has them in it. They are an accident waiting to happen and it is about time someone noticed.

Lax security
The Government Accountability Office (GAO)? This must be the greatest oxymoron of all time. Certainly, if security at covertly tested government buildings is facing some "serious challenges" this should be classified as confidential and immediately addressed.
Right? Nope, lets tell every whacko in the world 'it's time for your test run". Good job GAO!

Local television covered the story, but not to worry, extremist, terrorist and whacko's probably didn't catch it's broadcast because they are too busy training.

Gi figure!!!!!!!!!!

lax security
I can see why there are so many problems with security in Federal Buildings. 1st: Its not FPS but contract security manning most Federal buildings, why, because government wanted to cut back on the amount of man power FPS had. Well it shows in so many ways but you try to blame FPS. Lets look at government itself first.2nd: Bring FPS up to what it needs so they can handle the Federal buildings themselves and get rid of contract security in the buildings. I have seen first hand when you have contract security that gave the lowest bid. You get sub par workers. Lets bring back FPS, build them up, train them the way their supposed to be and that way you have a professional force doing the job the right way.
