I see nothing wrong with what the officer did in this situation. The suspect was raising hell inside of a fully loaded train which could incite a riot depending on what kind of crap he was spewing. The only issue that I see that needs to be addressed is the rail system needs to order thicker glass in order to prevent these types of things from happening in the future.

I hate to seconcd guess an Officer's actions as the public allways see fit to do. To me it looked like the subject lunged towards the glass as to punch it. Maybe the officer pushed the subject towards the window, but it looked like the subject purposely broke the glass..

Intent was to effect an arrest
If that glass window had been made from plexi glass and didn't shatter, this video would not be newsworth. I doubt the officer intended to shatter the window with the suspect. He probable fully expected the window not to break, and be able to use it as a tool of leverage to overcome the suspects obvious resistance to his lawful authority. Even after the windo shatters, you can see the subject continue to brace his arm against the wall in an attempt to resist the officer's attempt to control him.

Officer Down
I guess from now on we should all just beg and plead with the bad guy and if he doesnt comply then we'll just leave.....then they can complain that we don't use enough force.....this is crap and that lawyer needs to get a life......clearly the guy threw his right fist into the glass....that officer didnt even throw him toward the glass he merely walked him to the wall and began trying to make the arrest ...i guess if we just went on a nation wide strike for a week they would be crying for us to come back and would stop whining about "excessive force".

Oh! That was so brutal! I can't believe how that cop abused that poor innocent man!

Gimme a break...I think the best comment was made by the videographer...."This cops doing his job man, this guys is way outta line". You know some times this job has to be handled with force because we are met with force. When the necessity of force is apparent, things don't always go as planned. I highly doubt the officer in this situation was trying to injure the suspect or himself for that matter. After all the officer seems to have sustained the more serious of the injuries so I don't know what the media is making a big deal over. Oh wait, it's the media.

I think the bigger issue might be with the transit authority and why they don't have tempered glass panels installed. It did not seem extremely forceful the way the guy hit the glass and it shattered all over both people. It would really suck if someone tripped and hit that glass during rush hour.

Watch the suspect's right hand as he punches the glass. As for the officer, I see nothing wrong with his removal of a disorderly and possibly drunk male from the train.
As we all know, an officer makes a split-second decision and the courts take months, if not years, to judge his actions. Let's hope the Department backs the officer on this one.

This cop obviously doesn't know how to do his job. Why didn't he get out his department issued 50 question evaluation form and ask all of the questions to determine if the guy was bipolar/schizophrenic/drunk/high/heterosexual/has a headache/will punch a window if force used on him. Once these questions are answered, and only then, should the officer put hands on the suspect. Of course if he answers the questions and the score is more than 50 on the 100 point scale is he deemed capable of being arrested. DIDN'T YOU GUYS GET THE MEMO.

What a crock of S---!!!!! The officer did NOTHING wrong. Matter of fact I think he did a damn good job.

If anyone is at fault it would be the idiot that put plate glass on a pedestrian walkway...in a earthquake zone!! Smart, real smart. But hell no we will just blame the police.

Good work by the officer. Let's move on to the next video.

"Lisa Gibson said her younger brother has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and didn't need to be handled so aggressively by the officer."
"John Burris, a civil rights attorney representing the family of a man killed by a transit officer on New Year's Day, also criticized the officer's handling of Gibson, saying he didn't give the suspect enough time to respond to his order to get off the train."

This guy is mentally unstable, under the influence of alcohol and threatening passengers. The officer absolutely did the right thing by grabbing him before he had a chance to turn and assualt the officer. Last time I checked, we don't have to announce our presence and make verbal requests before gong hands on. Suspect appears to be holding a large bottle in his left hand, presumably a beer bottle. That is a heck of a painful weapon if the suspect uses it against the officer. I can see the suspect lifting his right arm as he approaches the glass. The officer was by himself, making an arrest on a drunk, potentially violent suspect. He was holding the suspect against the wall to gain leverage. He did everything right and de-escalated the incident with very little force. Besides, he got injured more than the suspect did. I hope this officer is doing better and the adminstration of his department doesn't hang him out to dry. Great job in a bad situation brother!!!
