Two Things
First, I wish reporters would learn about firearms before writing about them.
Second, everyone is required to maintain insurance on there vehicle just in case they need it. Departments purchasing more powerful weapons is whether they need them now or may need them in the future is simply insurance of another kind.

Ridiculous
How easy they forget things like 9/11 and the LA Shootout. I think it was the guy Krasnov who said they did not need high powered weapons in small towns. What a dope. Guess where the bad guys go to set up meth labs and things of that sort? That's right, the small towns where the criminals know there isn't that much police presence. Just FYI, at the beginning of my career I worked in a town of 6,000 people and within eight years we had two cops shot. A great quote from a movie, "He pulls a knife, you pull a gun." Remember all you liberals, it is better to have a gun and not need it rather than to need a gun and not have it.

out of touch
Wow. It never ceases to amaze me how out of touch and boderline blind many of the members of the public are. Who cares how many rounds are fired a year to dispatch animals. How about looking into incidents where a higher weapon response de-escalated a situation without persons injured. You don't bring a stick to a rock fight. Just another example of a liberal, over opinionated sheep in the herd.

Right!!
One can tell after reading the first few paragraphs that whomever wrote this article, has no clue about what they are writing. Semi auto that fires three rounds per trigger pull!!??

And most important, anyone who knows even a little about firearms know that the M16/AR15 weapons system is pretty close to being the perfect law enforcement weapon. They give you pin point match grade accuracy, reduced penetration, reduced ricochet and good terminal ballistics.

Some more liberal rubbish. These same whiners would be the first to cry out if the police did not have the correct weapons for their job. Leave the weapons selection to the people who know.

The wall
Anyone that complains "My taxmoney isnt being spent well" needs to be directed to the National Law Enforcement Memorial and statistics on the annual number of officers murdered on duty. I wonder what the publics reaction would be if Police took a day off. All of them. The animals of this nation would tear it apart and then the "taxpayerers" might be a bit more appreciative

Assault weapons
You can tell a liberal, anti-gun left-leaning reporter wrote this story!!! I see nothing wrong with stockpiling advanced weaponry in a safe, secure police firearms storage room. The criminals sure as hell stockpile guns!!

Javie Settlemoir
Sir, I think that they meant the accidental three rounds were at different times. Realize they said "or" between the disassembly/inspection. I'm not against the police or anything like that. In fact, I'm a real big fan of the PDs and anything related. I want to join my department when I finish college. I'm just saying that you might have misread that one sentence.

No, J. Settlemoir is correct. Read more carefully.

The first paragraph describes semi-automatic firearms by describing them as, "capable of one to three shots per trigger pull" That would make it a select-fire weapon, NOT semi-automatic.

Sheep
This is just an example of the sheep in society being afraid of the sheepdog that spends his life protecting the sheep. They don't like the wolf, but when they don't see the wolf for awhile, they forget it's the sheepdog that kept him away. We sheepdogs have a job to do, don't be afraid of the tools we use to ensure your safety.
