CUYAHOGA COUNTY --

More Cuyahoga County sheriff's deputies will be laid off due to budget cuts.

During a news conference Monday, Sheriff Gerald McFaul said the bottom line is that more deputies will lose their jobs because he has less money to work with, reported NewsChannel5's Duane Pohlman.

In all, 18 deputies, 15 correction officers and three security monitors were laid off. Eleven sergeants were demoted, and McFaul said that is just the beginning.

McFaul said no department or division will be unaffected as he works to cut his $85 million budget.

Layoffs are just part of it. The sheriff is reorganizing his entire department eliminating the rank of sergeant to save tens of thousands of dollars.

But seven other employees were promoted to higher pay, including the sheriff's niece.

McFaul denies any wrongdoing and said all those promoted deserved it.

On Monday, the Ohio Patrolmen's Benevolent Association filed an action with the state, accusing the sheriff of union-busting.

The sergeants were about to vote on a new union later this month.

Despite the deep cuts, the sheriff maintains he can keep Cuyahoga County safe.

I think its time for a vote of no confidence against the chief in that agency.

So crime is down in this area? The officers do not need, and deserve, adequate supervision? What job does the neice hold? Regardless of any justification, raises and promotions are in very poor judgement. stay safe

Ohio Sheriff
Sounds like he is taking care of Family and friends before the Community or the Sheriffs Dept. Less Officers on duty will have a domino effect for the worse

In Europe, they have a no confidence vote for their national governments. Too bad we can't have the no vote confidence item in getting rid of bad/incompetent leaders in Corporate America, labor unions, and at the city, county, state, and federal levels particularly within each government agency. You see an immediate decrease in corporate and government scandels/corruption.

Sorry Leaders
It's sad that we have so many heads of agencies and departmens as well as ranking officers that are corrupt and only think of themselves.

This sounds like one POS sorry sheriff. Maybe he wil be kicked out of office next election if not before hand.

cutbacks on Ohio Law Enforcement Officers
I just happened to notice this story on the web while deciding if I was going to donate to the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund. Ohio seems incapable of doing any government activities without graft and corruption. I refer of course to the latest election mess and now that they feel pretty confident that the Democrats in a majority will cover all their mistakes and shortcomings they are going to punish the law abiding citizens and reward their butt kissers. I am sorry you are having to put up with this. Oregon, where I live is not much better but the state of Ohio takes the prize for being the biggest embarrassment East of the Mississippi
