A Lathrup Village police officer was killed Thursday by a roadside bomb while serving his second tour of duty in Afghanistan, said the Lathrup Village police chief.
Officer Matthew Hilton, 37, was a member of the National Guard and a Lathrup Village police officer of seven years. He was also a Detroit police officer for a few years before coming to Lathrup Village in 2007, said Police Chief Bob Jones.
Hilton's family said his wife is also in the military, but not on active duty.
His family is awaiting his body to return for burial.
