LOS ANGELES
--
A Los Angeles police officer shot and killed a man who allegedly lunged at him with a knife Tuesday morning in Hollywood, authorities said.
Officers had approached the man -- who was lying on the ground -- to check on his well-being when he allegedly lunged at them with a knife and stabbed one of them. The officer's injuries were not life-threatening.
The shooting occurred at about 4 a.m. in the 1400 block of Curson Avenue, said Los Angeles police Officer Kate Lopez of the Media Relations office.
The identity of the man who was fatally shot was not immediately released.
