I'm pleased that the numbers are down. However, I don't agree that better training is why. You can't figure in the human factor. Training is always going to be better and better each and every year. But Officers are still going to die in this business. Some years the numbers will be up and some years they will be down, like this one. But death is part of our profession, just like the military. I'm not trying to bust your bubble, but I don't want new Officers thinking they are invincible, because they got the best training. So just keep training and watch your back.

officer deaths
Hopefully the trend of less deaths will continue. And may GOD bless those who gave all and thier loved ones.
It also would be interesting to see how many officers are disabled in the line of duty each year.
Unfortunatly, I believe that number may be somewhat of a shock. For reasons unknown, that number is not easy to find.
Just as the officers that are disabled are hidden from view so are the stats regarding disabled officers.
Isnt it time that these officers are not shoved away and forgotten about?

How sad it is that on the day this article appears on the Officer.com home page, under it is the story of 2 officers killed. I agree, 140 is too many. In fact, 1 is too many. Be safe.

One more thing, officer suicide is area that seriously needs to be addressed by every department. This is the most preventable as its final act involves only him/herself.

L.O.D.D. Deaths
I agree that 140 Officers is too many. The article also states that a record number of adults in prison. They got there because an Officer arrested them and put them there. I'm sure all L.E. agencies have seen an increase in violent felonies, high risk(felony) arrests and coupled with more Officers on the streets yet L.O.D.D. are down. God training education and the brains to use that what one has learned plus a warrior mindset goes along way to ensure that you fulfill the first rule of Law Enforcement; That at the end of your shift you go home alive!

Stay safe and happy holidays to you and yours. " Blessed are the Peace Keepers, for they will be called the children of God ".

I WAS ALSO THINKING THAT DUE TO THE FACT OF HIGH GAS PRICES AND DUE TO ALOT OF AGENCIES CUTTING DOWN ON PATROLING ALLOWED LESS OFFICERS OUT ON THE STREETS GETTING INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS.
