uh.... ok
So......what occurred inside the bar? Why were subjects arrested? Did they resist? Is that how the ubject received his injury?
Due to the fact these items were left out of this story, I would bet that the cops were in the right, but since this is a "special interest" bar, the media will not report it. Just a hunch, though.

"Multi-culturalism" training is a waste of time. Are gays/women/minorities/etc/ et al that different and require a modified response??? I thought those groups did NOT want to be treated differently.

I doubt the arrestees were hooked for being gay, but rather for breaking a law. Just because it was an anniversary means cops cant arrest gays or enforce laws whose offenders happen to be gay? If thats the belief then dont arrest any blacks on MLK day, the Irish on St. Pats, etc. Hopefully, thats not the complaint.

Lots of info left out of this story. There is no way the cops just busted in there and started crackin' heads. How about a more complete story next time...

Some bad apples
Raids such as this give all good officers bad names. I wasn't completely convinced at first, but considering all the eyewitness reports that completely contradict the arresting officers, I lost faith. Very bad. Very sad. Sounds as if they TABC officers were the bad ones and others tried to cover for them.

Sounds like a normal media story about Law Enforcement, half truths and not the complete story. Typical of todays media, bash the police for doing their jobs. Try a fresh approach and report the complete story without your bias twist. Even the Chief didn't have the balls to tell the whole story or the media didn't want the public to know the truth.

This is a poorly written news piece, but I'm not going to assume its intent was to attack the police or to hide the truth. It appears this is probably already a big deal in the DFW area, and the writer assumed the readers will have the necessary background knowledge to understand the importance of the article and the info contained. At least some background should have been included about the actual incident, so we wouldn't be sitting here scratching our heads.

Paul......
I think you can take women out of your "multi-culturalism" category. I don't remember any training as a police officer i've ever had on how to treat us differently, except except make sure the cuffs are on tight if we're skinny. So no I don't want to be treated differently. Just expect to be treated like any other officer (and woman) that would give her life to save yours.

This is ridiculous
I bleed blue before anything else. When the uniform is on, nothing else matters. If a guy grabs my crotch when Im on duty he's going to lockup - period. End of story. This is a case of drunk gays doing something wrong and trying to play the rainbow card to get out of it.

Sorry boyos, Im a cop before I'm gay. Shame on the Chief for turning his back on state ABC guys over something so small!

Politics and alcohol do not mix.

The fact all this occurred in a a "special interest" bar on the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall Raid aside, ABC cops normally go in bars to conduct alcoholic beverage code inspections.

Having them work with city cops leads to arrests for non liquor code violations.

Sounds like FWPD and TABC may have already had some issues.

Here in Denver, our liquor agents and DPD are not on the best of terms. Hardly ever join forces.

Fort Worth PD says one of the officers was groped, leading to the first arrest for lewd behavior.

Others were for public intoxication. Hello, it was a bar.

Wading into a bar full of celebrants always guarantees a call for cuffs. Makes about as much sense as inspecting a GI bar in the middle of the Army-Navy game.

I imagine Texas has some kind of dram shop law, so the bartender should have cut them off if they were too drunk to serve.

One civilian suffered a fractured skull, others claim various injuries.

Whenever alcohol is involved the waters get muddied pretty quickly. The stories become about as clear.

Backing up the liquor cops is like directing traffic while troopers write tickets on highway construction sites. You wind up being along to provide muscle.

Maybe the chief made the right call. His cops can do big city police work.

The ABC troops can check bottles for tax stamps and be on the lookout for code violations all by themselves.

Yep, here it goes again. A chief not having the balls to tell the media to butt out and let them do their job and investigate the incident and not having the balls and tell the media they would not stop the joint investigations with the TABC. No need to stop what they were doing on a complaint that had not been substantiated. I can't understand why some "leaders", and I use the term loosely, wimp out before the investigation is barely started. Heck, tell the media you will handle the investigation and take appropriate action and they can wait until you are done. AND, it's business as usual until then and don't ask more questions until it's over. But, we all know that won't happen.
