Two good things come from this. First, the jail will realize they need to update their security measures and second, the idiot gets charged with escape and spends a few more years in prison. Everyone wins (except the idiot who ran away).

Tom,

Everyone wins? What about the tax payer who will pay about $50,000 for every year this yahoo spends in prison.

And for what? Because he stole a few hundred/even a thousand dollars? Our system of punishment is ridiculously cost ineffective.

Not a convict, not convinced.
"Toy, ...21, was .. awaiting trial"
"Jailer Bill Adams ... said it was the first time he's seen an escaped convict ... return."

Jailer Bill Adams was part of the crew that left the door open. Apparently attention to detail is not the strong suit here.

Hey M
Hey M,
BROTHER REMEMBER THESE WORDS...." YOU DO THE CRIME, YOU DO THE TIME"... it's as simple as that, I rather be paying for this yahoo to be locked up then pay for for welfare. You want this Toy to rob you, then tell me if it's a waste of money...My point exactly..

@Wuckfit

FTFA - "He's also serving a four-year sentence for theft."

Sounds like a convict to me.

Idiot.

@M,
I suppose we should do a cost analysis of each crime, and if it's not cost-effective, simply let them get away with it? I can see it now "Only one murder? That's going to be costly... if it were five we'd consider it. Ten would be a done deal."

Wait guys, I think "M" is right. It will cost way too much to keep him incarcerated for simply stealing. Keep in mind guys that in addition to the high cost of housing and feeding, he will probably get educated at our expense and will more than likely re-offend once he is released. Yes, I think "M" is on to something.....BUT if we shoot this sorry piece of crap then we will save money on court cost, his attorney fees, food, shelter, medical, and so on. But even with the cost of amunition going up, it is still cheaper and we won't have to worry about him escaping again or him re-offending! Everyone wins!

To all those who consider "M" an idiot,

First, it will cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $35,000-$45,000 to house man each year. Yet somehow this is a better distribution of your tax dollars than say $18,000-$20,000/year for federal welfare. Makes sense.

Second, the prison system is full of non-violent offenders. Anyone who thinks prison is the proper place for this man may be slightly retarded. You take someone guilty of theft(a non-violent crime) and throw him in prison with a multitude of violent offenders. What happens? Said inmate becomes increasingly more violent in order to survive and see the end of his sentence. So , in 4 years you have taken a non-violent criminal and forced him to become violent. If I'm going to have $$$ stolen from me, I'd rather it not be at gunpoint.

The penal system is jacked up. After reading these comments I see a generation that has become so clouded with its own moral righteousness that it fails to realize the true injustices occuring in this world.
