ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. --

An Orange County deputy is under an internal investigation. He's accused of loaning his taser to a friend, who in turn shot someone with it while joking around. It all unfolded on Disney property and, despite the investigation, Deputy Eric Jaros is still on duty.

The sheriff's office just started investigating, but typically policy violations can be anything from verbal reprimand on up, depending on how severe investigators consider it. They know that taser was discharged by someone else inside a security office at Walt Disney World.

When it comes to Orange County Sheriff's Office procedures, what happened last week at the Walt Disney World amusement park Epcot is anything but amusing.

"The deputy was working a law enforcement function, but it was an off-duty detail," said Capt. Angelo Nieves, Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Eyewitness News has learned, while working that off-duty detail at Epcot, Deputy Eric Jaros is accused of allowing a park security officer to use his department issued taser. That security officer fired it and struck another Disney security officer.

The Reedy Creek Fire Department was dispatched to provide medical services, but the officer didn't need to be taken to a hospital.

Disney is doing an internal investigation and has placed the employee who fired the taser on leave. The sheriff's office has also launched an internal investigation into the incident, but Jaros remains on the job.

"We're going ahead and do a thorough review, administrative process, to determine what occurred, what exactly the circumstances were," Nieves said.

Jaros works in the tourist corridor that includes Disney and has been with the sheriff's office since 1991. He has the reputation of being an excellent deputy, but the sheriff's office says, unless he was in a tactical situation, it's definitely not okay for a deputy to allow someone else to use any department-issued weapon.

"The non-lethal weapon we provide strictly for their use," Nieves said.

Even though someone was shot with a taser, the sheriff's office said, based on the facts, they have now it does not appear to be a criminal act. Disney says the victim is fine, but there's no word if he wants to pursue criminal charges.

Deputy Accused Of Loaning Taser To Friend Who Used It

An officer said:
"Ok, this deputy probably needs to be fired but what if the other "guard" was sjanc"

Let me get this straight:
You would fire an 18 year veteran officer with a reputation for being an "excellent" deputy for a momentary lapse in judgement he made by handing his taser to a security guard who was stupid enough to discharge it into another security guard.

How about 8 hours off or loss of extra jobs for a month or two.

We need to quit crucifying each other over these types of stupid incidents.

Sh*t Happens

I agree, officers needs to uphold the brotherhood and stop acting like the media, blowing up such a small incident. But let's stop and think about where this happened. Florida, where there's no such thing as a brotherhood. They're all out for their own gain anyway so what do you expect other than taking an 18yr vet's job hoping to fill his shoes and salary.

To GA COP
Yeah, your right... sh** happens..a few days off and a letter in his file works better than firing him. My bad.

Oh no...
Give the officer the choice.... resign ..... or just pay the $5.00 for the taser cartridge.

What a joke. I can't believe that this even made the news.

I think this really depends on what happened. If the officer was "on duty" (acting as an officer), and not in a tactical situation, then he probably had no business handing his weapon to a guard. That was the real mistake. It shows a lack of judgement, but I'm not sure it was serious enough to warrant dismissal. People, don't hand your weapons, ANY weapons over to anyone that's not a LEO.

As for the guard, If he used the taser on purpose, then he should be dismissed, but, really this seems to me like a casual "equipment review", as in "hey can I see that?", followed by "oh, dang, did I do that?!?"

sjanc, I don't call for people like you to be fired when you screw-up my orders in the drive-thru or cook the wrong food. One thing you will learn is life is not fair and you sound like a bitter criminal. *Cry*Moan* They don't fight fair! *Cry*Whine*Moan* I bet you aren't so tough without that badge! *Complain*Cry*Moan* If you were educated you would know cops aren't in charge of releasing serial rapists and child molesters, sjanc. Department of Corrections are responsible for holding prisoners and releasing them.

A hefty suspension is in order for this lapse of judgement. I normally don't underestimate people but just when I thought I have seen the most egregious lapse of common sense in Florida someone else tops it. Come on, Guys/Gals in Florida! Get it together!

Glad to see you lumped all us Florida LEO's together. Just another jackazz comment. I guess "in training" says it all. Before you comment on a whole state how about think about what your saying before you show your stupidity.

Okay, I do not know the cop or anything about the department. However I have to agree with GA Cop. We have a hard enough time finding good officers so lets not get rid of one for a momentary laps in judgement. A few days off and a letter in his jacket woud be more than enough punishment. God bless all of my fellow brothers and sister out there stay safe.
