LITTLETON, Colo. --

A Littleton officer accidentally shot himself Wednesday during regularly scheduled firearms training, police said.

The officer was involved in a live-fire exercise at the Highlands Ranch Law Enforcement Training Facility in unincorporated Douglas County when he shot himself in the leg reholstering his handgun.

Several other officers were also on the firing line at the time of the accident but no one else was hurt.

The officer was given emergency first-aid treatment by the Littleton Police Department range staff. His wound was not life-threatening, police said.

Littleton Police Department will conduct an internal investigation and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will conduct an independent investigation of the incident.

The officer's name is not being released.
