Why would a good lieutenant with so much to live for commit suicide? It doesn't seem like a coincidence

Officer Suicide
As a team family volunteer member of Ten-Four Ministries there is a pain in my heart each time I hear of the loss of one of our modern day centurions who sacrifice so much to maintain our great American way of life. My prayer is that secular society, and most of all the Christian church will give peace officers all the support and encouragement they so richly deserve and help to avoid many such losses.
Sincerely,
Sharon Burton Pease

Officers suicide
This breaks my heart. The story indicates that he "loved"
his job and lived it. That makes clear the amount of stress he endured. A cops cop is not afforded the luxury of expressing
internal conflict. Being a supervisor above other officers makes it even harder to express that conflict. We all
understand that soldiers who experience war return home
battle weary suffering from post traumatic stress. Our
police are in battle day in and day out. The stress is never post traumatic it is real time traumatic.
There needs to be more done in an effort to give these
battle weary officers concrete ways to deal with all that
they see in line of duty.
Case and point, I am putting in place of my name
"mother of a police officer" because I do not want my comments to reflect on my son. Really a sad commentary.

To The Family of Lt. Norfleet
It is a great loss to lose a family member and these circumstances make it even harder. My prayers go out to you all. In my 8 years of law enforcement I have attended the funerals of 6 fellow officers who have taken their lives. No one can ever know what was going through their minds and what was so painful enough for them to give up on life. Don't judge him by the last action he took rather rejoice and remember the officer, man and friend that he was. Rest in peace brother.

To cg836,
Based on this story it is hard to say that he felt like he had alot to live for. He may have been a great Officer and was facing money/family issues that he could no longer bear, and in his mind the only solution was suicide.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family and the Officer's/coworkers that he leaves behind, I hope that you all find some closure.

Quit second guessing
I went through 34+ years of state law enforcement with the GSP and GBI. I quit second guessing why police officers do what they do the night I rolled an assassinated Florida State Trooper over in the woods in middle Georgia after he had been shot with his service revolver by Paul John Knowles, a serial murderer who got the drop on him. Why this young man took his life we may never know but God Bless him for his work in law enforcement while he was with us and God Bless his family for supporting him in his work. Rest in peace brother.
