"Findlen said officers receive various types of training about how to disarm suspects."

How many articles there are that not only blatantly lie in the headline to attract attention, but mislead readers into thinking cops are "routinely" able to achieve the impossible. How many sheep out there are going to read that one sentence and think the officer really was trained to disarm attackers (let alone ones with swords)? The reality, of course, the training is a few minutes a year at best at a last ditch effort to save her own life against a knife attack! Media training the future jury.

Samauri Swords
Samauri swords are very finely made weapons, sharp and dangerous. In training, it is emphasized to officers how dangerous a person with a knife can be...a person with a sword is mch more dangerous. All they have to do is put it down on the ground...An officer is justified in shooting if a person continues to advanced after they have been warned. Thankfully the officer wasn't injured. Hopefully this serves as a warning to perps with a knife or edged weapon...Listen to the Officer!!!

play with blade, die with blade
you go out in public with a sword threatening other people you can expect what this jerk got. Don't care if he is mentally ill, don't care if he had a hard life, don't care about anything except he threatened a life and lost his in process. I guess some liberal jerk offs would say the cop should run away, well that is okay for liberal cowards but its not the way for a police officer to act. Officer you did the world a favor. Thank You.

no negotiation
Its sad that this Officer did not try to attempt negotiations?? This person probably had mental issues.

There ARE techniques that enable a person to disarm someone with a sword, but I guess all the facts arent out.

Another life lost ;(

I woulnt want to try to disarm someone with a sword. What looks good on paper or a controlled environment self defense class doesnt always transfer to reality very well.

A sword? thats a life or death situation-I imagine the Officer did try negotiation but if someone comes at you with a sword, negotiation time is over-Get real.
