Wow, gotta say this looks pretty bad for the officer. Assuming this is all true, why would you apply your baton for no reason when you know it's being recorded on the Taser cam? It just doesn't make sense.

The story seems to indicate the officer did not know he had activated the video. The Shafter - Wasco area has been plagued with police abuse for years.

Keith: yeah, the article kind of alludes to that, but I just can't believe he didn't know that the Taser cam starts recording when you flip the safety up. Regardless, if this is all true, I agree sjanc, this cop is a moron and needs the boot.

Taser Taping
Based on the available Data the officer was in the wrong and needs to be dealt with swiftly. Everyone but SJANC knows he is the lunatic and should not have access to this system.

Maybe he assumed that the video would only be reviebed if he actually fired the taser

taser recording
Kudos to the chief for handling the incident quickly. Being an officer, overall 99% of us want to do the right thing and we accomplish that. There is no need to be afraid of the police if you are a law abiding citizen. If the officer is wrong in his actions, there is plenty of recourse. People have to take responibility for their actions. That includes the police.

Taser Recording
Like I tell my folks when I teach a Taser class, TaserCams are the best thing for you, but ONLY if you are doing the right thing!

Officers should conduct themselves as if they are on camera at all times, because you never know when you're on video...

taser and camera
TASER CAMERA

If an officer coducts himself or herself, in a professional manner as a good officer will, then there is no need to worry if a camera is on or off. If he did the things that he is acussed of then he should, like any other law breaker take the heat. I can say that I was not one to take out my anger on a suspect. Although there were times I had to really stop and think, then I would do the correct thing.
