California Correctional Officer Shot, Killed At Home

SACRAMENTO, Calif. --

A state correctional officer was shot to death early Wednesday as he prepared to leave his south Sacramento home for work, police said.

Steve Lo, 39, was in full uniform and standing in his garage in the the 8400 block of Tambor Way shortly before 5 a.m. when he was fatally wounded by gunfire, police Sgt. Matt Young said.

Police arrived to find Lo lying in the garage.

Lo was taken to a local hospital where he later died. He is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters.

Lo worked with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. He had been an officer for about three years.

Department of Corrections representative Terry Thornton said Lo began working at the California Medical Facility in Vacaville in March 2006.

Lo previously worked at a correctional facility in Galt.
