This is a racket fueled by money, bottom line. The bail agents care only about money. There should be laws that state no financing in any case, period!

As for Dog the Bounty Hunter who him and his posse go to any lengths to arrest the "Ice Heads", just remember, "Dog" is a bail agent who lets these "Ice Heads" out of jail in the first place.

Don't let them out and you won't have to chase them down, then he coddles them and says he will bail them back out again, brudda.

Job Security and BS
The legislation won't pass because their pockets are being padded by bondsmen and their rep's.

Job security for law enforcement because they get to keep taking the same POS off the streets time and time again. Like they really need that!

The need for bounty hunters will be going up because there will be more POS out jumping bail. Good, the bondsmen will be out more money!

I hope it puts a lot of bonding companies out of business. Why the states give bondsmen 6 to 12 months to find the POS or pay up beats the hell out of me.

Our entire system sucks more and more.

Bail Bonds
First, "Dog" is not a bail agent. And he gets all mushy afterward because he doesn;t want anyone mad at him. Just watch.
Second, I'm a retitred Police Detective and Bondsman for 12 years. Even Cops don;t understand Bonds and bond law. It's not the money stream people think. And those bondsmen that do risky bonds usually don;t stay in business. The ecopnomy just weeds them out.
Third, the idea of a bond is not to prevent someone from doing wrong while out. It is to guarnatee their appearance. Many will forfeit their money to be on the run. Cops rarely try hard to find them. The bondsman loses his job or his house in that case and is highly motivated to find the creep insstead. NO ONE ELSE in the system cares as much.
If you only want money for the court get rid of bondsmen. If you want the subject arrested, bondsmen are a much better deal. If the bondsman does the bond for FREE he is still liable for the FULL bond.
I judge if the family can't pay a precent at all, how are they going to pay for the bond if forfeited? The BOND IS ONLY AS GOOD AS THE CO-SIGNER. There are issues the article jsut didn't address. And I've seen little change over the years. People want as cheap as they can get.

Bonds constitutional rights for suspects!! VICTIMS are always left out ,and neighborhoods!!!
Victims are 2X's victims ,once by perpatrator then by a system that looks after criminals so they'll keep coming back time and time aGAIN!!!! Legislators are more criminals friends than the victims .. Hard working people must pay thousands to get Esquire to help them!! POOR is this mess we call Justice !!! I seen behind the scene for years and it will make you sick to see how it -CRIMINAL in Jus tice ,really works. Victims load up defend yourself...!!!!!! It's a mEEsss.. To see the rotating door some one should do a better job for us working people!! Run for Office put some of these drunken Bumbs out, wake up tax payors!!!!

I hate that bad people get out to walk the streets again. But as long as Bond is allowed by state and federal laws then i'll live with it. Many complain that the law only protects the criminal. No the law (constitution) protects everyone including the accused. I would rather have that system then no protection at all.

Bonds
Maybe the judges should set higher bonds, especially for violent offenders

Bondsmen and cheap rates:
Man! I can see the bias and descrimination here. Granted there are some phonies in the bonding business and real amatures in the recovery end of it, but, let me tell you that you as police could have a damn good ally here as well. I am a bail bondsman and recovery agent and I do not consider myself to be second rate. I pay a hell of a lot for training that is provided to you people as a part of your job. I stay up on the laws and I do not give brakes to defendants. Neither does the bond company that I write under nor do the two previous companies that I wrote under give out cheap bonds. Bail business saves the tax payer and you in LE considerable $$ like it or not. I do not bond anybody unless they have a damn good cosigner and depending on $$ amounts, not without collateral. My skip ratio is extreamly low to -0-. I recover skip for many other bondsmen as well with a very high percentage rate of success. I have met the elephant probably as many times as most LEO only to charge on harder. I have been responsible for a number of arrests that LE agencies were not collecting and I did not, nor did not expect to get paid for. I will not bond a pedephile if I have very good reason to believe that he/she is a pedophile. In most cases, I work on recovery by myself and on occasion local (various jurisdictions) are there for back up. I don't know about other states, but I am sure that they are much like Colorado in as much the Surety requires a cosigner who can stand behind the bond like anybody cosigning for a car or loan from the bank. I will not let a skip because of his or her ignorance or lack of principle take down the cosigner. Most of my business is referral and that doesn't come because I have screwed the cosigner, the defendant, or the court. In doing the bond, I do not play games and am dead serious about what I do as I have to answere to the Colorado Division of Insurance and they do not screw around with insurance providers, neither do the insuance companies. So; a lot of hot air has or is being blown in the article just as in some of your comments. If you think that the bondsmen/women are screwing the public for bucks and any of you or a relative or friend are in need of a bond, don't call a bondsman-pay cash for the bond or set in jail until court date.
THE DOG DWAYNE? He is a Gd phoney!

What kind of "Justice System"ould let a person out of jail who they believed to be a criminal, just because he could buy his way (Bond) out???????????

"DOG" may not be a bail agent per say buy his wife is and I'm sure he has alot to do with it.

I would like the counties to handle their own bail, period! Let pre-trial screen the defendants and then determine if a percentage bail is needed. In my county if you post a percentage bail, you will recover all but 2% as administrative fees. It is not a money maker for the county. If you don't meet the requirements then you don't make bail unless you can post the full amount. Again, that is for good reason.

If the defendant skips, let law enforcement deal with getting him back into custody. They are trained and have the resources available to make sure it is done right and no one's rights are violated in the process.

I've come across ex felons who are bounty hunters...(Even dog is a felon), yahoos etc... I assisted one once only to find I had warrants for him myself...I promptly arrested him and he was later in the same intake tank as the guy he just picked up. I'm sure there are good one's out there but I have yet to meet one.
