MIAMI
--
After a high-speed chase, police arrested five men who they said were involved in an armed carjacking in Miami.
Miami-Dade Police Department said they arrested Clarence Williams, Frederick McCray, Antwan McCray, Andrew McCray and Edward Childress in connection with the carjacking.
According to police, Michael Hodo, 20, was in the parking lot next to his vehicle on the 11000 block of Southwest 196 Street at approximately 12:30 a.m. Police said the five armed men approached him while they were in their car. The men exited their vehicle and ordered Hodo to the ground and took his money, jewelry and keys, police said.
Three of the men fled in Hodos vehicle, and the other two men fled the scene with their vehicle, police said.
Police said Joseph Campbell, 26, who was parked in his vehicle nearby, witnessed the robbery and followed the men while he called police.
Police said the men saw Campbell following them and fired two shots at him. Campbell was able to give the dispatcher the location of the vehicles.
Shortly after, police caught up with the men and positioned their vehicles behind their vehicles. Police said they attempted to perform a felony traffic stop, but the men continued to flee.
Police said that one of the men pointed a gun at one of the officers and tried to run the police vehicle off the road.
The men fled into an area and exited their cars and fled on foot.
Officers set up a perimeter and arrested four of the men. K-9 officers entered the area and were able to track and apprehend the fifth subject shortly after.
Police said the men were armed with two AK-47s and one handgun.
There were no injuries to the victims or them, police said.
