I agree with "drunk cops."
But it seems like you are taking it way to personnel. What people fail to realize is that cops are human too. They break the law too. They also sin too. NOBODY even you is perfect. I am a cop in Indiana and I will always help out a brother in blue. If its not breaking the law. Give him a ride home if he is driving drunk. Absolutely I will.
Be safe.

Also,
"What would you say to a survivor of someone killed by a DUI cop?"
The only thing I can do is pray for the victims family. And I hope he loses his job. However, its no different than Joe the citizen crashing and killing somebody. We are all human.

I agree that this is horrendous and I have held and taken care of many who latter died at the hands of a drunk driver...however; sissy non cop obviously has a problem way beyond the topic. Maybe you should come clean sissy. It's OK, just say it.

Interesting that we're constantly hearing "cops should be held to a higher standard" when we are deluged with a tidal wave of stress and job-related burdens -both physical and emotional, that most people never deal with. Held to a higher standard? How about given more attention and resources for help? How about some of these "stress relief retreats" that members of admin get? When a cop goes before a judge for dui, believe me, he's not getting leniency. He's getting jammed up, big time, even if it's a first offense. Joe Schmoe's first offense by contrast, is a slap on the hand. So for those of you spouting about a higher standard for cops, there it is. We ALL need to evaluate our behavior when drinking. None of us should drive drunk, cop or not. But treating cops like robots and kicking them when they make a mistake doesn't help, Sissy. Nice name by the way...

I will never make any excuses for a cop that has a drunk and then gets behind the wheel of a car. No different than one who slaps his woman around. We have to be above the ones that we have sworn to protect, and the ones we have to protect against.

That being said, cops have a hell of alot harder job than most anyone realizes. We hurt. We see the absolute worst mankind can do to each other. We see death. Sometimes the death of a friend or co-worker, and sometimes, the death of another cop from somewhere across the country. Either way, all cops carry hurt deep down inside them, and like everyone else, we have to let it out from time to time.

Be smart out there. The ones we give our lives for don't always appreciate it, and they're all too quick to burn us when we do mess up, which happens more often than anyone would ever like to admit.

Stay safe, and I'll get off my soap box now.

drunk cops
When I find out I have another cop stopped, I immediately tell them to have a nice day and let them go. With one exception, a drunk driver. Although I have never beeen in that situation yet, I could not let someone leave driving down the same streets that my son and all the people I care about use.

We 're here for you
Everyone has a different reason to drink. However, I believe that a police officer should not do anything that he/she will punished someone for. If any police officer has a few drinks, please call the local pd, let them know you got a few drinks and they will make sure you make it home safely. A couple of drinks cen change your life in just seconds...

The problem that I see with the issue of cops and drunk driving is that we as cops have seen first hand the consequences of drinking and driving. I don't understand why a cop, knowing this, would place him or herself in such a dangerous position. It doesn't seem like a "mistake" to me. Putting your socks on inside out is a mistake.. not drinking and driving,

Hey Cop Chick:
Nobody is forcing you to take the job. Every cop knows what they're signing up for. Sure, it's stressful, dangerous, and you have to deal with a-holes but, you all like the perks... No traffic tickets for life, you get to protect your family without having to beg for a gun permit, many of you get free cars and gasoline, detail pay that's ridiculous, etc., etc. So, before you go whining about how tough it is try working in the real world where your survival is at the whim of the marketplace.
You SHOULD be held to a higher standard. You are enforcing laws and you should be absolutely above reproach. We are rapidly becoming like a banana republic where so many of our police officers are corrupted by the simple things that make them despised by the public that they used to serve. If you can't handle the job and you support the douchebags in your command and your government that make your job more difficult then you need a new career.
