ORLANDO, Fla. --

A man fighting with deputies died after he was stunned three times with a Taser, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

Jose Anibal Amaro, 45, of Kissimmee, was running in and out of traffic Tuesday on South Orange Blossom Trail “waving a belt over his head and foaming at the mouth,” the sheriff’s office said. Calls to 911 also said the man had a hammer, but it turned out to be a squeegee, agency spokesman Jim Solomons said.

When deputies arrived about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, the man got into a fighting pose, ignored deputies’ commands, and made a threatening move toward one deputy, Solomons said. Deputy Andrew Reynolds then used a Taser, which shoots prongs into a person and sends an electric charge designed to temporarily disable.

Amaro, however, got up and ran away, Solomons said. He charged at deputies, and again Reynolds used his Taser. At that time, Solomons said, Amaro indicated he would surrender, but then he continued to pull away from deputies.

After being shocked with the Taser a third time, Amaro ran from deputies, who eventually were able to tackle him with the help of a passer-by, Solomons said.

When he was in custody, deputies saw Amaro was having medical issues, and he was taken to Florida Hospital Kissimmee. At 7:20 a.m. Wednesday, the sheriff’s office was told that Amaro had died, Solomons said, who added that witnesses told police Amaro was drinking alcohol and using cocaine earlier Tuesday.

Reynolds is assigned to administrative duties while the agency investigates the incident.

Tased and confused
Great, another death the media will blame on the tasing. Never mind that the lunatic was foaming at the mouth, out of his ming on coke. They would probably never report the story if they would have just shot him.

There is more to the story here, and will come out in the investigation. He probably died from a heart attack while under the influence of cocaine. Unfortunately, the media will only see the death, the TASER, and the police at the center of it all. As I have said before, when this comes down on the side of the police, you will hear nothing more about it in the media.

Florida Man Dies after being Tasered
So, a police website uses the same type of headline that the mainstream media do. No wonder more and more people think Tasers KILL! The headline should have been Florida man fights police while under the influence of alcohol and drugs and later dies.

Im just waiting to see the article on this stating over and over "50,000 volts" seems thats all the media cares about. At least the article showed verbal commands and the deputy's noticing the need for EMS, maybe they are starting to get a bit of a clue on we need the taser and its a great/safe tool

Lesson learned, for the rest of us!
Act like an idiot = get the taser. May die! Thus, don't act like an idiot. Seems simple to me.

I have to agree with Ronaldo, the media people are real quick to point the fingerat law enforcement and the tatics they use. Its funny you don't see many articles in the news on officers getting hurt during a struggle where the "perp" inflicted serious harm to the officer. Of course not, that does'nt sell papers or get ratings.... We have given way to much power to the press.

Anybody else wondering why in the hell did Reynolds get assigned to Administrative duties while the agency investigates the incident?? Come on, he didn't use his firearm, for cryin out loud.

Re: Z
It's all about the agency appearing to do something. He probably got temporarily reassigned because his actions appeared to have caused the death of a subject. I would think it would be the same if the death had appeared to be caused by his firearm, physical strikes or his vehicle.
