Unarmed Officer
I can fully AGREE and UNDERSTAND where your coming from in your readings. I personally am *underage* to carry a firearm in the great city of Kansas City. Point being. I independent contract for MULTIPLE security agencies throughout Kansas and Missouri. If an officer is under the legal age to carry a lethal firearm, why not ataser? Sure, a taser can take a life in the untrained hand, but at least that officer would have the tool to diffuse the situation before it possibly becomes a lethal one. In my line of security enforcement, I do alot of bars, parties, and special events. As young as I may be (20 yrs of age) I encourage hiring MALE and FEMALE officer armed and unarmed. HOWEVER I prefer my UNARMED officers to carry the following equipment on their duty belts. Cuffs, Mace (OC) Spray, Baton, Medical gloves, Cut resistant gloves, AND a TASER! Dangerous situations happen EVERYWHERE, not just the streets, but in middle class shopping mall's as well. like I STRESS and STRESS to my officer's (personell) crime does not have a specific face.

Security Officer
I am a Security Officer in Phoenix, AZ. I have worked for my current Employeer for 4-years now and have seen both the field operation side, and the "command staff" operation side. Are "bread and butter" is Multi-housing communitys, (Apartments), and I would be the first to say that I wouldn't work in any of the communites w/o my service weapon. I too can feel you when you talk about someone who is in a posistion and has no clue how the field operations, what we do each night, how it is important to know how to preserve life, and the list goes on-and-on. I want to thank you for writting this post.

Unarmed Security
I have worked in the private security industry in the UK since 1994, starting as a Security Officer and currently a Security and Training Consultant. Security Officers here have no options regarding this. Weapons of any kind are not allowed. No batons, sprays, tazers, handguns (which are banned to citizens anyway).

Security officer authority
I think security officer should have the authority they had in pinkertons day.We should have to right to arrest in the event of a felony or when life is threatened, but only on post in the performace of duty.

security at hospitals in N.C...
I have worked hospitals, where if you say training ," the so called supervisor,' says we don't need that. But we have criminals druggys hanging out here. People have shot birds off deck at night. Training is looked at as a not needed item. But just as sure as hell breaks out one day, someone will think about it ! Police response is 20 minutes on occassins. Priorities are not what they should be. !!!!!!!!!! Security is just a booooooo factor till the *censored* hits the fan......$$$$$$$$$$

Armed Security Officer
It is duly important to have a properly trained armed officer on any property or special event. Why? Here's why. These times and ages anything can happen at a moments notice. Terrorism, Domestic Disputes, Gang related activity, Drugs, People wanted on Warrants that occupy a home on a property, etc. Personally I would feel uncomfortable sticking an unarmed officer on any property alone without having the Tools he or she needs to get the job done. In addition, being armed is a tool and a deterrent if used properly. These days Law Enforcement jobs are getting cut back and response times may not be that great so it just goes to show.
