A suspect with a gun in hand is a deadly threat as they can always raise and fire faster than you can respond.

If you think a suspect is armed, get distance and get behind cover.

Incorporate movement off-line to interfere with the suspect's response time and always practice your firearms training to make a shot on a smaller profile target possible.

I am glad that a lot of the judges are actually reading and interpreting the justification statutes that govern police use of force- the only way a cop can get a fair trial is by a judge and not the jury of his not equals.
Good article I printed it out for future reference during use of force hearing- internal or criminal.

Training
I think this is a good article. Very true statements, but all these reference to studies done by PPCT make me question is LE moving forward or stuck in the past? PPCT done all this elaborate research which is great, but there training has been proven over time that it is NOT "True Reactionary Base Training". Its a "thought process training system" and if we all agree that action is faster than reaction, why are SO many agencies afraid to learn something new? I was a PPCT instructor for 5 years and always knew and saw it it never worked other than a "true passive resistent" subject. Officers need a Complete Gross Motor Reactionary base training. I'm currenlty the National Instructor for a system that is just that! From the Non-compliant to the Deadly for Confrontation-firearms included, it's a Package like have never seen! Oh yeah over 240,000 end users, 3,500 Instructors trained in 12 years, we've NEVER been to court and have plenty of After Action Reports to prove positive field experience! Time to put our egos aside and come together to save lives. Times have evolved.. 1*
