Greene County Sheriff's Office

Investigator Chad Carr

On June 4th 2009, the Greene County Sheriff's Office and the County of Greene lost a brother Law Enforcement Officer.

Investigator Chad Carr, age 31, tragically lost his life in a motor vehicle accident. Inv. Carr, while on duty and in his assigned vehicle, ran off the right side of the road on Rt. 230, then re-entered the roadway where it then collided with a truck traveling toward Stanardsville. Chad died of his injuries at the scene. We are thankful that the driver of the truck was not injured and in fact made a great effort to assist our Deputy. We are truly appreciative.

The Virginia State Police are in charge of the accident investigation. Please direct any questions regarding the accident investigation to the VSP.

Inv. Carr had been in law enforcement for 7 1/2 years, first as an animal control officer, then as a field Deputy. Chad was an instructor and enjoyed teaching at the law enforcement academy. Chad's favorite assignment had been that of a K-9 handler, even though he hadn't had a dog for a while, that passion never ended. Chad received the Lifesaving award this year for saving a man's life utilizing CPR and the AED.

Inv. Carr had recently been promoted into Investigations and assigned to the Blue Ridge Narcotics Task Force as a narcotics enforcement officer, a job that he truly enjoyed and excelled at.

Chad was the father of two young boys, ages 7 and 3. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them and Chad's family. We will be establishing a fund for the children.

Chad had a great love of law enforcement work and will be greatly missed by his fellow workers.

Funeral Information

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, June 12, at the Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock. Interment will be at Wicomico United Methodist Church Cemetery in Wicomico Church, Virginia, with Full Honors.

A memorial fund for the children's benefit has been established. Donations may be made to The Chadwick Carr Memorial Fund, at any Bank of America location or c/o Chesapeake Bank, P.O. Box 1419, Kilmarnock, VA 22482.

I attended Deputy Carr's funeral yesterday. As evidenced by the large attendance, he was truly loved by his brothers and his community. He was laid to rest in a beautiful spot, under a huge oak tree in Wicomico Church. VA.
rest in Peace, brother. We have the watch.

Although we ended up hundreds of miles apart, it's always a comfort to know that we were friends when we where young. God bless your family and keep them strong. Rest in peace, but know that you will be missed.
